MU Police Department arrested an MU student with first-degree rape charges.
Freshman Austin Joseph Campbell was arrested on suspicion for sexually assaulting a female student at a Tiger Avenue residence hall on Jan. 18 around 3 a.m., MUPD Maj. Brian Weimer said in an email.
Campbell allegedly unlawfully entered the victim’s room before sexually assaulting her.
“On the 19th, MUPD was able to make contact with the suspect, Austin Joseph Campbell,” Weimer said.
MUPD later transported Campbell to the station where he was interviewed and arrested for first-degree rape and first-degree burglary.
Campbell was taken to Boone County Jail from the station. As of Jan. 21, he is currently not listed on the Boone County Jail inmate roster.
MU spokesman Christian Basi said the university is unable to provide comment on the charges or provide information due to federal law.
MU students did not receive a Clery release for this case.
