OK, so who cares if you don’t have your very own Ben Wyatt or Ann Perkins? Take a tip from the one and only Leslie Knope and celebrate the day before Valentine’s Day — I mean Galentine’s Day — this year with all your favorite girls! I’ve rounded up five fabulous ways that you can enjoy Feb. 13 this year _without_ all the mushy-gushy, lovey-dovey stuff.
_NOTE: No significant others needed in the execution of any of these plans._
1) Since Amy Poehler is the inspiration of this day, why not have a “Parks and Recreation” Netflix marathon? Cuddle up with all your best girlfriends and spend the Sunday relaxing in your PJs, eating copious amounts of chocolate and watching Leslie Knope and Ann Perkins be the best girl team you ever did see! And if that’s not doing it for you, April Ludgate’s always got your back with a healthy dose of cynicism.
2) I’ve only got two words — “treat yo’self!” Tap into your inner Donna and Tom and splurge a little on yourself. Gather up your girl crew and pamper yourself. Manicures, pedicures, massages, facials — the list goes on! Seriously though, the [Mizzou Spa](https://www.mizzourec.com/membership/zoulife/spa-services/) has so many great offers for a reasonable price.
3) The best way to a woman’s heart is … food. Yep, food. Whether it’s breakfast, dinner or lunch, there are so many hot spots in Columbia to get your feast on. Grab your BFFs and go get some killer brunch: possibly Ernie’s or Cafe Berlin. The choices are infinite. But make sure to snag a reservation if you’re planning on going out for a fancy dinner with your gals.
4) Galentine’s Day secret admirer? Think of it as a Secret Santa, but for Valentine’s Day! Have all your close gal pals draw names and get a gift for whomever they select (preferably under $15 because, let’s be real, we’re all broke college students). Then, all get together on the 14 and exchange gifts, eat good food, watch movies, etc. Who needs love when you’ve got BFFs?
5) Lastly, I highly suggest having a day-after-Galentine’s-Day! What does that mean? Take a ride to Walmart or Target with all your best girlfriends post-Vday and stash up on some half-off Valentine’s Day candy! Because, c’mon, we all know Feb. 15 is the _real_ holiday after all.
Hope these tips and tricks give you a helpful guide to perfecting your very own Galentine’s Day!
_Love,
Your Fellow Single Girl_
