An MU student was arrested and charged with first-degree burglary and armed criminal action on Tuesday
Sophomore Romell Dewayne Rainey is under suspicion of breaking and entering a 5200 block of Tessa Way residence Nov. 10, 2015.
A male victim was sleeping in the residence when Rainey allegedly entered through the backdoor. The victim woke and pursued the burglar who tried to flee the home, said Bryana Larimer, Columbia Police Department’s public information officer. A struggle ensued in the backyard, which ended after the burglar brandished a small handgun, causing the victim to release him.
CPD arrested Rainey at 1:15 p.m. Feb. 9. He faces felony charges of first-degree burglary and armed criminal action with $30,000 bond.
Rainey will undergo a criminal hearing March 4 at Boone County Circuit Court.
Rainey has been arrested previously for possession of a controlled substance, according to online court records.
