The Missouri Tigers baseball team fell to the Seton Hall Pirates 9-1 on Sunday in Fort Myers, Florida.
The game did not start off well for sophomore pitcher Ryan Lee and the Tigers. Seton Hall took a 1-0 lead after senior Chris Chiaradio doubled in Derek Jenkins in the opening frame, and a second inning Mike Caputo double plated another run.
In the third inning, Lee loaded the bases with two walks and a hit batsman. After recording just one out in the inning, he was replaced by senior Austin Tribby.
Unfortunately for the Tigers, Tribby picked up where Lee left off. He walked the first batter he saw, giving the Pirates a 3-0 lead. He ultimately worked out of the jam with a strikeout and pop out.
Seton Hall picked up another run in the top of the fourth inning. In the bottom half of the frame, senior Zach Lavy and freshman Ian Nelson were both caught stealing, preventing any chance of a Tigers rally.
The Pirates broke the game open in the seventh inning. Sophomore pitcher Cole Bartlett allowed a bases-loaded walk, giving Seton Hall a five-run lead. Bartlett was then replaced by redshirt freshman Liam Carter, who surrendered a three-run double, making the score 8-0.
Missouri scored its first run in the bottom of the seventh. Sophomore Brett Bond doubled and Columbia native Connor Brumfield singled, putting runners on the corners. A wild pitch scored Bond.
Freshman pitcher Graham Ruopp walked in another run in the top of the ninth inning. The 9-1 Seton Hall lead stood.
On a tough day for the Tigers, Lavy was a bright spot. He went 3-4 with a double. Junior Jake Ring also had a multi-hit game, going 2-4. Freshman Brian Sharp threw a scoreless eighth inning of relief.
Missouri split the four-game series with Seton Hall. The Tigers are back in action on Wednesday against Florida International.
