Missouri sits in 11th place after day one of the men’s NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships in Atlanta.
The 800-yard freestyle relay was the only event contested on Wednesday. The Tigers’ team of junior Michael Chadwick, freshman Mikel Schreuders, junior Carter Griffin and junior Fabian Schwingenschlogl took 11th place with a school-record time of 6:18.25, earning Honorable Mention All-America honors. It was the first time Missouri ever scored points in the event at NCAA Championships.
Chadwick led off the relay with a 200-yard freestyle time of 1:33.64, breaking his own school record by nearly half a second. His previous best time was 1:34.11.
The Texas Longhorns won the race in 6:08.03, a new NCAA and U.S. open record. North Carolina State touched second and Florida was third. Seven Southeastern Conference teams placed in the top 16.
Competition begins tomorrow at 9 a.m.
