It’s almost April, so spring trends are in full swing. Here’s your need-to-know guide to the best looks from the spring fashion collections:
**The Shoulder Cutout**
This look has been gracing shelves of department stores for the past year now, but runways for this spring were where it really got a boost in popularity. These tops are usually very flowy, which could pair very well with a pair of high-waisted shorts or skinny jeans. A few websites have said that a flowy top does not pair well with flowy skirts, but if you’re feeling it, I say go for it. The only downside about this new trend is you’ll have some funky looking tan lines, but that’s nothing a little social isolation can’t fix. Just don’t leave your house.
**‘70s Suede**
I personally love all the recycling of past fashion that is happening today, but suede can still be kind of hit or miss. A great way to incorporate it into your wardrobe is in little bits and pieces. Suede skirts have come back in style and are a great way to mix it into your outfits; suede shoes are another alternative that work really well with this trend. I would suggest holding off on purchasing larger suede pieces and watching the colors you purchase. Try to avoid looking like the second-hand couch sitting in your brother’s living room.
**White Shirts**
Even though they are a wardrobe staple, white shirts are apparently a spring essential for this year? I don’t quite understand, but I’ll roll with it. Runways featured a multitude of white shirts, but the most popular look was variations on the classic white button down. This is a shirt that can look good with anything, so don’t worry about finding something to pair it with. Just don’t spill anything on yourself and look like a damn fool. Oh, and carry a Tide pen.
**Pleats for Days**
Pleated everything is the trend this spring. Bring in pleated skirts and dresses to update your wardrobe for 2016. You could even combine it with one of the aforementioned trends, like the shoulder cutout or white shirt. The best advice I can give you for pleats is to avoid pleated jeans like the plague. Some clothing items aren’t worthy enough to be revived, and pleated jeans are one of those.
**Sleepwear Chic**
Lingerie-esque pieces and house robes dominated the runways for Spring 2016. I feel that college students are already masters at the pajamas-for-daywear look, so just keep doing you.
