MU lost a beloved dog (or polar bear) at the end of March.

Harry, one of the Great Pyrenees dogs MU students saw frequently at Speakers Circle, died due to bone cancer March 23. He often spent time in Speakers Circle accompanied by his owner, Cris Wood. The news was announced in a [Facebook post](https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10209159238522153&set=a.1178006694418.27723.1355651242&type=3&theater) by sophomore Lauren Price.

“He will be missed dearly, and (is) still very loved,” Price wrote. “Harry is out of pain now and will be given a heavens ton of treats.”

Wood [brought his two Great Pyrenees dogs,](https://www.themaneater.com/stories/2015/3/3/two-great-pyrenees-become-staple-speakers-circle/) Harry and Harlan, to sit in Speakers Circle after their daily walks. These two dogs are frequently referred to as polar bears with heavy white fur and have been known to have a kind and loving personality.

Harry touched the hearts of many people. In addition to MU students, many Columbia residents and businesses posted on social media in memory of the dog.

“Pouring one out for our drinking buddy Harry,” downtown restaurant Main Squeeze wrote on Instagram. “We will miss your sweet furriness.”

Without Harry’s company, Wood still brings Harlan to campus.

“It has been a joy to share Harry with so many on campus and around town,” Wood says in an email. “We’ve made many friends and greatly appreciate the outpouring of love and support at this difficult time. Harlan will still look forward to lots of pets and pictures. Thanks to all who have become part of our lives.”
