It’s no secret that the women of Star Wars know how to dress. From Leia’s iconic hairstyles to Padme’s elegant dresses, their looks have been rocking the galaxy since 1977. Yet there is someone who tends to be overlooked when it comes to Star Wars fashion discussions.
Luke Skywalker.
His simple, everyday style is the kind of thing that could be forgotten if worn by anyone else. But Luke Skywalker is not anyone else. He has a dramatic flare that makes every one of his outfits memorable, something that he got from his mother.
One of his more notable looks is [Luke’s “Return of the Jedi” all-black suit](https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/f0/fd/59/f0fd599f5e708c8c8c456048e973f7c7.jpg) with a single black glove. After about 15 minutes into the movie, Luke is introduced in a large sweeping cape, the kind that is reserved for only the most dynamic entrances. He drops the cape and reveals his black ensemble with knee high black boots and a green lightsaber that truly bring the entire outfit together.
Luke’s looks in “Return of the Jedi” didn’t stop there. [His camo poncho](https://mackenziething.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/the-legacy-collection-luke-skywalker-endor_big_6.jpg) on Endor is the pinnacle of camping chic. Luke cinches the poncho with a belt, taking a simple clothing item and transforming it into an individual look.
“Return of the Jedi” wasn’t the beginning of Luke’s fashion journey. In “A New Hope,” Luke showed us that his true calling was to give us some of the greatest outfits in the galaxy. [The original poncho](http://40.media.tumblr.com/5a0f389390783af647ab294e36404737/tumblr_nto6v3M4oZ1twcj5xo1_1280.jpg) that he wore on Tatooine was the spark that started Luke’s calling to be a fashion icon. This outfit truly was the precursor to his later looks with the poncho and his tan knee high boots, that are later brought back into his wardrobe in a new innovative way.
The true beauty of Luke’s outfits is that they are so simple, yet he gives them his own flair. He adds a signature belt with every outfit that really makes it his own. His outfits could be boring but his attitude makes them awesome.
On a more serious note, Luke being acknowledged as a fashion icon is really beneficial for young boys who may take an interest in fashion, which is typically considered a “woman’s industry.” Imagine if one of sci-fi’s greatest heroes could take an interest in clothes without anyone suggesting that it compromises his masculinity.
Mark Hamill, the man behind Luke, is someone who has always encouraged fans to interpret the character to their liking ([and has had his own iconic looks himself](http://40.media.tumblr.com/0dabd791db54b2a0a4b06185333ddcd4/tumblr_inline_o2u7gwd8Hw1u15der_540.png).) So for future generations, let’s not forget Luke saved the galaxy and looked great while doing it.
