First stop, a geography lesson. All the contestants headed for Buenos Aires this week. Hopefully all the boys knew where that is, but we can’t be certain because most of them were confused about the location of Uruguay last week.
In one of the most awkward and cringeworthy moments of this season, Wells’ ego gets completely wrecked before the first one-on-one after he reveals to the boys that he hasn’t kissed JoJo yet. Luke, who I don’t like, asks JoJo whether they’re finally going to kiss, which made for a terrible start to the date.
JoJo and Wells finally kiss in a weird, colorfully lit ceiling pool, and the kiss was even weirder. Even erectile dysfunction specialist Evan got a kiss, which is probably a horrid realization for cute radio DJ Wells.
As an extremely sweaty Wells waits for JoJo to give him the rose, she tells him that he is “an incredible human being” but she doesn’t know if he is the one she wants to spend the rest of her life with. (Are any of the contestants really long-term husband worthy, though?) So, JoJo sends Wells packing.
Another awkward moment follows on the group date with Jordan, Luke, Robby, James and Alex, where JoJo tells a Buenos Aires local that all the boys are her boyfriends. The date is filled with subtly jealous moments and a makeout session with Luke, who eventually gets the group date rose.
During the date, James T. calls Jordan an entitled snob and once again says that Jordan is probably not on the show for the right reasons. Jordan says to the cameraman that James’ backstabbing is ‘effed up, which it kind of is. JoJo, who seems to love Jordan the best, confronts Jordan and resolves it quickly.
In a historic moment, JoJo became the first Bachelorette to have two two-on-one dates in a season. The first with Alex and Chad, this one with Derek and Chase, both somewhat irrelevant players this season. This is probably because they’re the worst and only there to cause drama, but whatever.
The three of them learn how to tango together, so it literally takes three to tango. Basically, JoJo takes turns kissing the boys, and she talks to Chase about her need for validation from him. Despite his hesitation to showing his emotions, he tells her what she wants to hear, and she gives Chase the rose. Even though Derek told her he was “falling for her,” she sends him home.
JoJo and Chase make out to “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina” while Derek cries about his rejection in the goodbye limo. Taking it hard, Derek talks about himself in the third person, saying “I wasn’t enough. I thought it was. I’m not. I’m Derek. And Derek is imperfect.”
At the cocktail party, JoJo has no idea who she is going to send home, and in true Bachelorette form, she’s extremely emotional about it. She spends time with all of the guys, and with Luke and Chase already having roses, the roses go to Jordan and Robby, leaving Alex and James T. waiting to see who she picks.
Alex has never had a group date rose or a one-on-one, so the fact that he’s even made it this far is a triumph in itself. As JoJo is about to make the final decision, she leaves the room and goes to talk it over with Chris Harrison.
The boys are waiting and looking around as JoJo stands there, suspense hanging in the air. But then, Harrison comes in and gives JoJo a silver platter with two roses, so neither of the boys will be going home this week.
Alex is angry in the interview because he thinks that he and James got “pity roses” and that he and JoJo could really click, if only she would give him a chance.
The hometown dates are coming up in a few weeks, and the guys are beginning to get (more) competitive for JoJo’s affection. “All this friendliness stuff is gone,” an ominous voiceover says. And Robbie says that he is the “clear frontrunner,” even though we all know the frontrunner is Jordan.
My vote is definitely going for Jordan this season. I think all the other boys have just fallen short of JoJo’s expectations, but I think the final three will be Luke, Robbie and Jordan. James T. took himself out of the running with the shady comments about Jordan, and Alex just clearly isn’t a good fit.
