As we head into August, here’s a look at how Missouri baseball players have fared this in collegiate summer leagues:
**Tanner Houck, Collegiate National Team**: For the second straight season, Houck has excelled while playing for Team USA. The rising junior led the Americans with 23.2 innings pitched this summer and had an earned run average of 2.66. Opponents hit only .205 against him. If his success continues next spring, he could be the first overall pick in next year’s MLB draft.
**Bryce Montes de Oca, Cape Cod Baseball League (Falmouth Commodores)**: Montes de Oca has been successful in the nation’s best summer league. After missing part of the summer season because of an injury, he has posted a 3.85 earned run average. The rising junior has not allowed a run in four of his five appearances.
**Trey Harris, New England Collegiate Baseball League (Newport Gulls)**: After a short stint in the Cape Cod Baseball League, Harris has found a home in Newport. In 19 games, he is hitting .269 with four home runs and 21 runs batted in. He has even pitched three innings for Newport over two games. Harris’ numbers with the Gulls are a drastic improvement from his time in the cape, where he hit only .125 in nine games.
**Brian Sharp, New England Collegiate Baseball League (Plymouth Pilgrims)**: Sharp, a rising sophomore, has had a strong summer with Plymouth. He is hitting .292 with eight doubles and three home runs and was named to the NECBL All Star Game.
**Brett Bond, New England Collegiate Baseball League (Mystic Schooners)**: Like Sharp, Bond was also a NECBL All Star. He is hitting .263 with 15 runs batted in and is Mystic’s primary catcher. He will be a junior next season.
**Liam Carter, New England Collegiate Baseball League (Valley Blue Sox)**: Carter has made 15 relief appearances for the Blue Sox. He has a 3.43 earned run average and has struck out 20 batters over 18.1 innings pitched.
**Cole Bartlett, New England Collegiate Baseball League (Plymouth Pilgrims)**: Bartlett has thrown 39 innings this summer and has a 4–2 record with a 2.76 earned run average. He has pitched in seven games this season, all of which he started.
