MU’s [historic fall semester in 2015](https://www.themaneater.com/special-sections/mu-fall-2015/) was a [buildup of multiple issues](https://www.themaneater.com/stories/2016/8/17/frequently-asked-questions-about-mus-historic-fall/), including frustration with administrators regarding graduate student rights, abortion privileges and students being called racial slurs. A key event and catalyst of last fall was when former Missouri Students Association President Payton Head [shared in a Facebook post](https://www.themaneater.com/stories/2015/9/16/msa-president-payton-head-combats-campus-discrimin/) that he had been called a racial slur. The post went viral and quickly gained national attention. Between then and now, [several other students](https://www.themaneater.com/stories/2015/10/5/lbc-homecoming-royalty-harassed-traditions-plaza/) have come forward [sharing similar experiences](https://www.themaneater.com/stories/2015/11/7/students-called-racial-slur-near-mizzourec/) with racism on campus. In light of a similar incident involving Legion of Black Collegians members [being called the N-word](https://www.themaneater.com/stories/2016/9/28/mupd-investigating-harassment-lbc-members/), a year and 16 days after Head shared his experience, The Maneater compared the response following both events.
