Senior Bea Machado Santos and junior Amina Ismail reached the semifinals in doubles play, and junior Brianna Lashway made it to the round of 16 at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Regionals this weekend in Minneapolis.
On day one, Missouri was able to knock out four victories in singles play, advancing Lashway, Ismail, Santos and freshman Tate Schroeder to the round of 64.
Santos’ win against Iasman Rosa of South Dakota State marked Santos’ 100th collegiate win. Earlier this season, Santos was ranked No. 36 in the nation in ITA preseason rankings, and she played in Riviera/ITA All-American Championships earlier this month.
On day two, the Tigers sealed up a total of 10 victories. Santos and Ismail defeated Xi-Wei Cai and Ana Sofia Cordero of Southern Illinois-Carbondale 8-3 to move on to the round of 32 in doubles play. Partners Mackenzy Middlebrooks and Cassidy Spearman and freshman duo Tate Schroeder and Claire Sullivan also moved onto the round of 32 in doubles after defeating pairings from Drake and Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, respectively.
Schroeder continued her impressive freshman campaign, making it to the round of 32 in singles before falling to Oklahoma State’s Aliona Bolsova 6-2, 6-3.
Lashway defeated Iva Bago of Kansas State to advance to the round of 16 in singles play at the conclusion of day two. On day three of the tournament, Lashway dropped her first singles match of the season to Kansas’ Anastasia Rychagova, bringing Lashway’s singles record to 6-1.
Santos and Ismail continued their doubles match success against Minnesota’s Annemarie Emme and Tina Kreinis, winning 8-5 and moving on to the round of 16. At the Mizzou Invite, Santos and Ismail fell short against competitors Lisa Andersson and Mary Hanna from Nebraska. With Santos and Ismail’s rematch against Andersson and Hanna, the Mizzou duo came out victorious with a score of 8-7 (3). The big win over the past competitors from the Mizzou Invite solidified Santos and Ismail’s entry into the final four in doubles.
Missouri tennis wrapped up the tournament with Santos and Ismail competing in the doubles quarterfinal. The pair fell to Tess Bernard-Feigenbaum and Nina Khmelnitckaia of Kansas 3-6, 2-6.
The Tigers will return to competition on Nov. 4 at the Big Green Invitational in Hanover, Massachusetts.
