Missouri women’s soccer lost 1-0 to No. 15 Arkansas on Thursday in Fayetteville.
The game was competitive throughout. Both teams were locked at zero until the 82nd minute, when Arkansas’ Jessi Hartzler got a shot by Mizzou goalkeeper Kelsey Dossey.
Holding Arkansas, the leading scoring team in the Southeastern Conference prior to the game, to only one point is a testament to the growth of Mizzou’s defense throughout the season. Arkansas is known for its ability to score, and keeping the Razorbacks to only one goal on seven shots on goal and 24 total shots is an impressive feat.
Mizzou’s offense, on the the other hand, struggled to be as efficient as it has been in previous games. The Tigers came up with no goals on five shots on goal and 13 total shots. For a team that has grown used to tallying above 20 shots a game and outshooting its opponents easily, 13 shots was unexpected.
This year’s road schedule for the women’s soccer team has been by all accounts one of the toughest in the SEC, if not the entire country. Mizzou has played elite competition such as Notre Dame, Auburn, Texas A&M and now Arkansas on the road, but all these games have been fairly close. The team is on the cusp of being very competitive, not only in the SEC but nationally. Unfortunately for the Tigers, they were not able to leave any of the schools with a win.
The Tigers’ next game is another road game against SEC opponent Georgia this Sunday at 3 p.m. on SEC Network.
