Senior Fabian Schwingenschlogl and junior Sharli Brady set team records at the Missouri invitational Friday, and the Tigers have scored 1,842 points through two days of the meet.
Here are some highlights from the Friday’s session:
**Schwingenschlogl dominates in breaststroke**
At last year’s NCAA Championships, Fabian Schwingenschlogl won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 51.29. On Friday morning, the senior went even faster.
Schwingenschlogl touched the wall in 51.07, a personal best by over two-tenths of a second. He went slower in the evening but still took first place with a finals time of 51.54.
Though he was not thrilled with his evening swim, the German National Team member was excited about his time in the morning.
“Coming into the race, I didn’t know where I’m at right now,” he said. “It was a surprise and also great.”
**Brady posts monster IM time**
At last season’s NCAA Championships, it took a time of 4:07.60 to earn first team All-American honors in the 400-yard individual medley. When the event was swum on Friday evening, junior Sharli Brady finished in 4:05.63, a best time by over two seconds.
Brady went much faster than she expected; she was even quicker than her goal for the end of the season.
“I think my goal was 4:07 … I’m going to have to readjust and kind of go back through that and see what I’m looking for,” she laughed. “But I mean, that’s a good problem to have.”
Brady will swim the 200-yard butterfly on Saturday.
**Ross off her best time**
Senior Katharine Ross was off her 100-yard breaststroke school record by over a second, but coach Greg Rhodenbaugh is not worried. The team had limited rest going into the Mizzou Invitational.
“She needs a lot of rest,” he said. “We know that about Katharine. We only took eight or nine days; a lot of rest is three or four weeks.”
Rhodenbaugh expects Ross to be in top-notch shape by the time NCAA Championships in March. As a junior, Ross finished fourth in the nation.
**Hynes becoming an integral part of relays**
At the Missouri Invite, freshman Haley Hynes has helped three Tigers relays qualify for NCAA Championships. Coming into the year, she did not even expect to be on Missouri’s A relay teams.
“It’s just something I wasn’t expecting,” she said. “I’m super blessed to have this opportunity as well.”
Hynes blasted a 24.05 backstroke split in the 200-yard medley relay, propelling the Tigers to an automatic NCAA qualifying time of 1:37.06.
“That’s the fastest split we’ve ever had,” Rhodenbaugh said.
Hynes has dropped a full second in the 50-yard backstroke in the past year. She also posted an impressive 100-yard backstroke time of 52.19, which will likely qualify for NCAA Championships.
**Reedy impresses in diving:**
Senior diver Lauren Reedy won the 1-meter diving event with a score of 310.75, picking up 20 team points for the Tigers.
Reedy also won the 3-meter event on Thursday. She is coming off a third place finish at this summer’s U.S. Olympic Diving Trials.
**Up next:** Missouri begins the final day of the Mizzou Invite at 10 a.m. Saturday.
