With one game left in the season, first-year defensive line coach Jackie Shipp was fired on Wednesday, according to a statement released by Mizzou Athletics.

“Jackie Shipp is no longer coaching for us, due to an internal matter where his conduct didn’t meet our expectations for coaches,” coach Barry Odom said in the statement. “We have a very high level of expectation for our student athletes, and for our staff that applies to an even higher level.”

Shipp joined the Missouri coaching staff in 2016. He replaced Chris Wilson, who held the position for six weeks until he left for a job with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Odom hired Wilson to replace Craig Kuligowski, who coached the Tigers’ defensive line from 2001-2015.

Neal Renna, a defensive graduate assistant, has worked with the defensive line this week, according to the Columbia Missourian and St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Shipp’s defensive lines played a large role in Missouri’s 23 team sacks thus far, the 66th most in the nation in 2016. The Tigers also have 61 total tackles for loss, the 79th most in the nation.

Shipp coached the Arizona State defensive line from 2013 to 2015 after a coaching stint at Oklahoma from 1999 to 2013. Before coaching, Shipp played for the Sooners and then in the NFL. The Miami Dolphins drafted Shipp 14th overall in the 1984 draft.
