Missouri swim and dive traveled to Knoxville, Tennessee, to compete in the Southeastern Conference Championships on Feb. 14-18. They earned three individual top-three finishes on Saturday to conclude the meet. The men’s and women’s teams finished fifth and sixth, respectively.
The men’s team earned its fifth-place finish with a total of 771 points. Florida’s men’s swim and dive team came in first, winning its fifth consecutive title, followed by Georgia, Auburn, Alabama, then the Tigers. Missouri’s women’s team came in sixth place, with 786 points, after Texas A&M won for a second consecutive season and was followed by Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Auburn then Missouri.
Over the course of the meet, several Tigers led Missouri to success.
Redshirt senior Lauren Reedy won the 1-meter springboard title with an SEC record of 364.3 points, and she placed fifth in the 3-meter. Reedy later received the SEC Female Diver of the Meet honor, an award voted on by the diving coaches.
Seniors Fabian Schwingenschlogl and Michael Chadwick and junior Hannah Stevens each earned two top-three finishes for the Tigers. Stevens placed third in the 200 backstroke, claiming the spot with a career-best time of 1:51:41. She earned her second top-three finish of the meet with a second-place finish in the 100 backstroke.
Chadwick earned a runner-up finish in the 100 freestyle with a 41.95 time and placed third in the 50 freestyle.
Schwingenschlogl placed third in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke, recording his fastest time of the season in the 200 at 1:52:61.
By the end of the meet, the Tigers had set seven school records.
In the 400 relay, Chadwick, along with sophomores Luke Mankus, Sam Coffman and Mikel Schreuders, finished with a 2:51.74, setting a new school record.
Individually, senior Nick Davis broke the school record for the men’s 1,000 and 1,650 freestyle. Stevens broke the school record for the 100 backstroke, and Reedy broke a personal record on the springboard. As a team, the men set or tied records in the 400 freestyle relay and both the 200 and 400 medley relays.
Next, the Tigers will compete in the American Short Course Championships from March 2-4, before competing in the NCAA Championship meet to finish the season.
