Solomon Davis and Jeremy Richmond are running under the slogan “Unify Mizzou” in the Residence Hall Association presidential election.
The two said their campaign slogan reflects their desire to bring the residence hall community closer together. Broadly, the pair said they want to improve RHA’s communication both internally and with other organizations, advocate for resident resources and increase transparency within government.

A cornerstone of the campaign platform is communication. The two said that improving communication within RHA would ultimately lead to a more efficient government.
“If residents or presidents or representatives can’t get in contact with the Exec Board, then the government isn’t really working for them,” Davis said.
Davis also said that communicating more effectively with residents is key to staying receptive to their needs.
“When you have a base of residents that really don’t know what you do, that’s a big problem,” Davis said.
Several proposals on the Davis/Richmond platform are aimed at typical issues residents face, such as elevator problems, internet access and laundry troubleshooting. The two hope to improve these areas by listening to residents and working with Residential Life to expedite maintenance.
“It’s really about amplifying the voice of the residents to make sure that they feel like they have a voice and that they have power,” Davis said. “When they start complaining about issues is when things will truly get fixed.”
The platform also proposes establishing a meeting with Greek Life organizations at the start of each semester. The meeting would be to chart out upcoming events, so that residents could stay involved in both Greek Life and hall government.
“We want to build a little harmony there, where we’re honoring what they do, they honor what we do, or even we can work a little bit in tandem,” Richmond said.
Another key component of the platform is its emphasis on transparency within RHA, so that residents are aware of what’s going on. More specifically, Richmond said that the two want to modernize RHA’s website and OrgSync, as well as make the RHA legislature more accessible.
The two also said that they would work to appoint RHA staff members based on skill and work ethic, not friendships. They said that, under their leadership, friends wouldn’t be selected over residents with better qualifications, which they said sometimes happens in RHA.
In general, the pair said they would bring a mentality change to reinvigorate RHA’s connection with its residents.
“If they at all during their time have felt that their voice wasn’t heard, that their problems weren’t addressed, this is the campaign for them,” Davis said.
Davis and Richmond, who respectively serve as presidents of Hatch and Wolpers halls, said their leadership experience in their halls would help them if elected.
Voting opened March 1 at 10 a.m. and closes March 3 at 10 a.m.
