Self-proclaimed as one of the “up-and-coming producers,” TroyBoi is ready to take on Columbia.
####The lowdown
On Thursday, TroyBoi is scheduled to play a set at The Blue Note with Ekali and Manatee Commune. Mizzou Electronic Music Organization is hosting the all-ages event in conjunction with The Blue Note.
Tickets for the show are $16 in advance and $18 the day of the show. The doors open at 8 p.m. and the show starts at 9 p.m.
####The artists
Southeast London native TroyBoi is stopping in Columbia as part of the Mantra Tour. His most recent song on SoundCloud, “Showbiz,” features David Stewart, another producer from London. TroyBoi has stops planned all over the world in the spring and summer of this year.
Ekali, aka Nathan Shaw, is a producer from Vancouver. His song “Unfaith” got him writing credit with Drake, and he most recently remixed Snakehips & MØ’s “Don’t Leave.”
Grant Eadie, known by his stage name Manatee Commune, is an artist who really focuses on the feeling of his music. According to his Facebook page, his goal is to make listeners feel like they’re taking a “self-reflective stroll through the forest.”
####Noteworthy tunes
**“Do You?”** by TroyBoi
I’m usually not a huge fan of EDM, but this song was cool. The beginning had interesting sound effects, and I would definitely listen to it again.
**“O.G”** by TroyBoi
TroyBoi’s style is very unique, and each song has its own transformative vibe. “O.G” is another example of the great work he produces, and I think this song would be amazing live.
**“At Your Best”** by Ekali
This song is pretty cool but is less energetic than most music of the EDM genre. It’s more of a chill song to listen to while studying or trying to sleep.
**“What We’ve Got (Remix)”** by Manatee Commune ft. SOL and Flint Eastwood
I seriously love this song. It’s so fun and is a low-key version of a love song. The beat is also playful and has the same characteristics that can be seen throughout his most recent EP, _Thistle_.
####If you like these, try:
**“Idfc (Blackbear Remix)”** by Tarro
The original song is one of my favorites, and this remix is perfect for anyone new to the genre or who is a fan of the slower, less dramatic music.
**“Phone Died”** by Louis The Child ft. Blaise Railey
Louis The Child is pretty hilarious in this song, and it’s still low-key and mellow like the musicians playing on Thursday. If you’re looking for more music like this, check out Chill Nation on YouTube.
