Missouri women’s golf finished in the middle of the pack this past weekend at the Mountain View Collegiate in Tucson, Arizona. They finished tied with Kansas State for sixth place out of 13 teams, with a score of +24. The tournament was co-hosted by the Tigers and Kansas State.
The team started off well in round one, ending the first day tied with Kansas State for fifth place at +4. Sophomore Emma Allen had a hot start, finishing the round tied for third overall with a score of -3. Freshman Jessica Yuen, sophomore Amanda Kim and junior Clara Young all finished day one tied for 25th.
During the second round, the Tigers slowed down, shooting seven strokes worse than the day before. Mizzou, though, was still able to maintain a solid position in the field. Allen fell down the leaderboard, shooting +2 on the day.
As a team, the Tigers were better in the third round, improving two shots from the previous day. Ultimately, the Tigers’ third-round performance earned them their second straight finish in the top half of a tournament.
Allen ended up with the best finish for Mizzou, tied for 16th at +4 despite falling off during the tournament’s final two days. This was her highest finish since October at the Jim West Challenge.
Yuen came in one stroke behind Allen at +5, tied for 20th place, her second straight top-20 finish of the 2017 season. Kim finished tied for 27th at +7. Freshman Cherise Otter and Young tied for 39th at +11. Senior Jessica Meek finished 46th, and sophomore Cayce Hendrickson finished tied for 53rd. Sophomore Mackenzie Perez rounded out the team, finishing 73rd.
Arizona ran away with the tournament, winning by 21 strokes over runner-up New Mexico State. Arizona’s Wanasa Zhou won the individual title at -13.
The Tigers compete next at the Ping ASU Invitational from April 7 to 9.
