Missouri women’s golf competed in the 2017 LSU Tiger Classic over the weekend at University Golf Club in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The Tigers performed well on the weekend, shooting +32 as a team, but it was a powerful final round that earned the team a sixth-place team finish in the tournament.
The Tigers’ strong final round was paced by senior Jessica Meek, who recorded a season-best round of 69. Meek also recorded one of her best overall tournament performances of the season, finishing tied for 16th in the individual rankings.
“I’m really pleased with today’s finish at the LSU Classic,” coach Stephanie Priesmeyer said. “We had a really good start, and it was nice to see some putts drop. We even had a few chip-ins for some fantastic saves. Jess [Meek] had a great day. She was very consistent with her iron play and took advantage of some nice shots.”
Freshman Jessica Yuen led the pack among Missouri individual competitors, recording a +3 total score that placed her tied for 11th overall on the weekend. This marked her fourth top-15 individual finish of the 2016-17 season.
“Jess [Yuen] had another great overall event for us and continues to play like a veteran,” Priesmeyer said. “Emma [Allen] had a nice stretch of birdies for us at the end. Clara (Young) also finished strong with a birdie and par. At events like this, every single stroke we can save is so important. We were able to get some nice wins against some higher ranked teams this weekend.”
Allen, a sophomore, also finished strong on the day, recording a personal tournament-best round of 72. Overall, Allen fell just outside the top-25 individual rankings, shooting a total of +7.
Duke won the tournament by a huge 18-stroke margin. Individually, Leona Maguire of the Blue Devils won the tournament shooting an impressive -10.
After a week off, the Tigers will travel to Phoenix to compete at ASU Karsten Golf Course in the PING/Arizona State Tournament from April 7-9. It is the final tournament of the 2017 regular season.
