After kicking off the spring season with three solid finishes, Mizzou women’s golf struggled at the Ping ASU Invitational hosted by No. 5 Arizona State in Tempe.
The Tigers finished tied for 10th for the team’s worst finish since October at the Jim West Challenge.
The first round was a struggle, as the Tigers left day one in 12th place. Over the next two rounds, Mizzou fared slightly better and climbed two spots to finish the tournament tied with San Diego State and Southeastern Conference foe LSU.
Individually, it wasn’t one of the team’s best performances. Sophomore Amanda Kim was Mizzou’s highest finisher, closing out the tournament in a seven-way tie for 29th, shooting +5. It was a comeback tournament for Kim after a 70th place finish at the LSU Tiger Classic.
Behind Kim were senior Jessica Meek and freshman Jessica Yeun, who tied for 39th at +7. Meek dropped down the leaderboard after shooting par in the first round. For Yeun, it was her second-worst finish of the year, and her first outside of the top 20 this spring.
Sophomore Cayce Hendrickson came in at +9, finishing tied for 45th, and junior Clara Young finished in 56th at +12. Sophomore Emma Allen rounded out the team with a 61st-place finish at +13. Allen had previously finished in the top 36 in all other events this year.
Arizona State won the tournament with ease, shooting -25, 20 strokes ahead of second-place Arizona.
Arizona State’s Roberta Liti took first place overall at -10, one stroke ahead of her teammate Monica Vaughn.
The Tigers next compete at the SEC Championships from April 21-23.
