Two weeks into the semester calls for a three-day weekend. Celebrate Labor Day by spending time with friends, relaxing by the the water or going on a shopping spree.
####Lay out at the Lake of the Ozarks####
Monday is supposed to be a hot and sunny day at 89 degrees, so why not spend it by the water? Take an hour and a half drive south to Lake of the Ozarks and splash around in that sparkling lake. If you have access to a boat, take it out. If you know how to swim, jump in. If you have sunscreen, go soak up the sun.
####Shop!####
Three words: Labor Day sales. Walk around downtown or in The Mall in Columbia to shop to your heart’s content and find amazing deals while you’re at it.
####See Gavin DeGraw perform Tuesday night to get hype####
Gavin DeGraw is finally coming to The Blue Note. What better way to get back into class mode than going to a concert and listening to “I Don’t Want to Be”? The concert brings you something to look forward to so that you don’t think of Tuesday and classes and automatically get sad. Going to the concert means one extra night of fun and just $30 out of your wallet. The concert starts at 8 p.m. on Sept. 5.
####Have a BBQ####
While the succulent aroma of hamburgers and hotdogs fills the air, throw a frisbee with a cute dog or just hang out and listen to some good music. Maybe you will still be inspired from seeing Gavin DeGraw the night before and play some of his tunes. If you don’t have access to a grill, no problem. Make a picnic and set out for Francis Quadrangle or Stephens Lake Park.
####Go on a hike####
For those who want to stay remote but get active, go on a hike. There are plenty of options in CoMo, the closest being the MKT Trail located right behind Mark Twain Hall. The Hinkson Creek Trail and the Grindstone Creek Trail that run through Grindstone Nature Area are also options. Don’t forget to bring a bottle of water and snacks to keep you energized.
####Hang out at the pool####
Because Monday will be a scorcher, jumping into a pool sounds like a pretty good way to spend your day. Either go to Truman’s Pond at the Student Recreation Complex, which will be open from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday and 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, or go to a pool at your friend’s apartment complex. Nothing sounds better than coming back from a sweaty hike and jumping into a pool.
