The Missouri women’s cross-country team placed third at the Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater, Oklahoma, behind a second straight win from senior Karissa Schwiezer.
Schwiezer finished with a time of 19:56 to win the 6K race, finishing 29 seconds ahead of second-place Tonya Nero. Redshirt senior Megan Cunningham finished seventh with a time of 21:07 that broke her previous personal record of 21:57.
Freshman Jenna Lutzow finished 24rd for the Tigers in her first full 6K race with a time of 21:55.
Head coach Marc Burns was impressed with Cunningham and Lutzow’s performances and was happy with the effort the women’s team showed on Saturday.
“Megan looked strong throughout the race and gave us another single-digit stick,” Burns said in a press release. “Jenna continues to learn and grow from meet to meet. We are very happy with our effort, and it was nice to beat Oklahoma State on their home course.”
Cunningham and Lutzow will be key parts of the team moving forward. Both will be relied upon to bring depth to the Tigers’ top five when they welcome returning All-American Jamie Kempfer for the Pre-National Invitational on Oct. 14 in Louisville, Kentucky.
The men’s cross-country team finished sixth behind a 13th-place finish from redshirt sophomore Thomas George. No. 9 Oklahoma State won the men’s race, and Ole Miss finished second.
George led the Tigers with a time of 25:03 in the 8K and was followed by redshirt senior Marc Dubrick. Dubrick finished 25th with a time of 25:25 and improved off of his time of 26:19 at the Commodore Classic earlier this year.
Up next, the men’s team will compete in the Bradley Classic on Oct. 13 in Peoria, Illinois, and the women will compete at the Pre-National Invitational on Oct. 14 in Louisville, Kentucky, at E.P “Tom” Sawyer State Park, the site of this year’s national championship.
