After a pivotal third quarter that saw junior Sophie Cunningham score 17 of her 19 points, the Tigers were able to pull away from Indiana and seal a 75-55 win in the West Palm Invitational.

Cunningham led all scorers with 19 points. The only other Tiger to finish in double figures was Amber Smith, who contributed 10 points. Cierra Porter only had four points but also grabbed 12 boards, and Lauren Aldridge dished six assists on her way to scoring nine.

While Cunningham finished the game with 19, she was held scoreless in a first half that saw much different play than usual from the team.

The Tigers finished the game shooting 42.4 percent from the field and 38.5 percent from beyond the arc, but at the end of the first half, they were 11 of 28 from the field and shooting only 27 percent from beyond the arc.

One difference-maker for the Tigers was their ability to make the most of the Hoosiers’ mistakes. Mizzou had 18 turnovers, as opposed to Indiana’s 16, but Mizzou was able to get 21 of its 75 points off of Indiana turnovers.

The Tigers also had 46 totals rebounds and scored 16 points off of 16 offensive rebounds, whereas the Hoosiers only scored three second-chance points off of eight offensive rebounds.

The Tigers also got a lot of scoring help off the bench. In total, the Tiger bench scored 27 points, and Jordan Chavis and Elle Brown both led the bench with seven points.

The Tigers will play Xavier at 4 p.m. CT on Monday in the West Palm Invitational.
