As midterms are winding down and spring break is slowly approaching, students could use a study break or a good binge watch. Netflix has been releasing original shows and movies for quite some time now, but its quick turnaround on production and releasing allows viewers to always have something new to watch. Here’s what’s new and what’s worthy of binge watching:
_Queer Eye_
The revival show, originally aired in 2003, has received a 100 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes. The eight episodes make it an easy binge, and you do not have to watch them in order. It’s a feel-good show centered around five men, known as the “Fab Five,” who give a makeover to a different man in each episode.
_Seven Seconds_
A new original featuring Regina King portrays a community in New Jersey when a teenage African-American boy is accidentally killed by a cop. With 10 one-hour episodes in the first season, it’s an easy binge. However, the show makes emotions run high, and watching it in one sitting could be difficult.
_The Cloverfield Paradox_
Viewers have been waiting for a new adaptation of _Cloverfield_. Paramount Pictures originally had the rights before Netflix bought them. Doing something never seen before, Netflix released an ad during the 2018 Super Bowl revealing that the show would begin streaming live directly after the Super Bowl. According to Business Insider, there were over 5 million views in the first week of release. Today, however, the show only has a 17 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
_The World’s Most Extraordinary Homes_
For all the Chip and Joanna Gaines lovers, Netflix has released a new show all about homes in the mountainside, forest, coast and underground. This is a new direction for Netflix but not surprising given that Hulu allows full access to _House Hunters_ and other DIY shows.
_The Open House_
Lastly, Netflix recently released original horror movie “The Open House,” featuring Dylan Minnette from _13 Reasons Why_. Netflix released a lot of promotions for this movie, but it has fallen short with only a 14 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. Although Netflix missed the mark on this one, its ability to craft horror and thriller shows leaves hope for other horror movies in the future.
These shows and movies aren’t low-budget programs. Netflix is putting a lot of time, money and good actors into these productions. _Pitch Perfect_’s Adam Devine stars in a romantic comedy titled _When We First Met_, and Jamie Dornan from _Fifty Shades of Grey_ stars in Netflix original _The Fall_. Actors are signing on for these movies because they have the ability to reach a wide audience — an audience that has all access to binge watch whatever it pleases, whether it be a romantic comedy, a serious drama, a thriller or even a DIY show.
