The Missouri women’s tennis team’s (13-17) quiet season came to an end Wednesday after a 4-1 loss to Arkansas in the Southeastern Conference Tournament.

It was the first round of the tournament and one that saw the two SEC opponents meet for just the second time this season. Missouri lost the first game 4-1 as well.

The loss marked the end of a season in which the Tigers failed to win a match against an SEC opponent, going 0-13 in conference play.

The match started off on a positive note in doubles play after sophomore Mackenzy Middlebrooks and freshman Ellie Wright won their set 6-2. Senior Amina Ismail and sophomore Serena Nash secured a 6-3 win to give Missouri the doubles point and give the team a 1-0 lead.

Singles play was all Arkansas, however, as the Razorbacks swept Missouri to claim the round-one victory. Middlebrooks lost her first set, 6-1, and ended up being swept in her second set, 6-0, to tie the match at 1-1. Freshman Taylor Gruber and Wright each failed to hit 6 points and lost both their sets, 6-4.

Now down 3-1, the Tigers’ season relied on Nash. She ended up dropping her first set by a thin margin of 7-6 and then was promptly shut out 6-0 to put Missouri down 4-1 and end its season.
