Missouri baseball freshman Cade Bormet is in stable condition at University Hospital after crashing into the wall in right field during Thursday night’s game.

Bormet broke multiple bones in his face during the collision, including his orbital bone, and suffered cuts on his knee. He is being kept at the hospital overnight for precautionary reasons, per a team spokesperson.

The freshman outfielder was tracking down a fly ball tailing foul of the right field line in the fourth inning of Thursday night’s series opening game against Georgia. Bormet slid feet first trying to catch the fly and collided with the brick wall in foul territory. Unlike those in fair territory, the walls parallel to the foul line at Taylor Stadium are not padded.

Bormet remained on the ground as trainers examined him and called for a stretcher. He was soon able to move his extremities and was captured by SEC Network’s cameras reassuring the crowd with a thumbs up as he was wheeled off.

The team issued a final update of the night in a tweet after the game, saying Bormet is “responsive, has full movement and he’s going to be okay.” Test results and further diagnosis will wait until Friday morning.

Bormet is a freshman out of San Antonio, Texas. He is batting .261 for the Tigers in his freshman year, with seven doubles, six runs batted in and 13 runs scored. Thursday night was his 15th start of the season.

Missouri lost the game to Georgia 10-6, as the Bulldogs’ Adam Sasser homered three times including a grand slam in the fifth inning. The Tigers led 4-3 at the time of Bormet’s injury. He was replaced in right field by Matt Berler.
