Lake Street Dive was one of the first performers to play at the MO Lottery Stage at this year’s Roots N Blues festival. The band consists of lead singer Rachael Price, trumpetist and guitarist Michael Olson, bassist Bridget Kearney and drummer Mike Calabrese. Although third in the line up, that didn’t keep them from drawing a large crowd.

The band’s blend of rhythms from different genres got the audience dancing. Their music was filled with power vocals and a mix of soul, pop and rock with some jazz influences. Lake Street Dive was also joined by Akie Bermiss on the keyboards, who sang and played his version of Shania Twain’s “You’re Still the One”.

However, the crowd’s favorites were definitely the energetic “Baby Don’t Leave Me Alone With My Thoughts” from the album “Free Yourself Up,” and “You Go Down Smooth” from their older album “Bad Self Portraits,” which also was the song to end the night’s performance.

Price interacted with the audience a lot, especially before their song “Bobby Tanqueray,” also from “Bad Self Portraits.” She talked about how everyone has met a “Bobby” before and dedicated the song to them.

Price’s power vocals, along with Lake Street Dive’s catchy tunes, performed at the MO Lottery Stage after local favorites the Burney Sisters and the blues singer Davy Knowles. The headliner of the night was The Avett Brothers, and a good portion of the crowd near the stage was already waiting for their performance.

Also headlining the MO Lottery Stage during Roots N Blues was the country and rock singer Sturgill Simpson and the Missourians Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats.
