Oct. 7 marks the beginning of National Coming Out Week, which is a week leading up to National Coming Out Day on Thursday, Oct. 11. This year marks the 30th anniversary of National Coming Out Day, which commemorates the March on Washington for gay and lesbian rights. Here on campus, the LGBTQ+ Resource Center has planned a week full of activities, excluding Friday, to celebrate this time that is so important to members of the LGBTQ+ community. All people of all identities are welcome at these events.
####Monday — Coming Out Week cupcakes####
From 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., there will be cupcakes served inside of the LGBTQ+ Resource Center, located in the basement of the MU Student Center. This kicks off the beginning of Coming Out Week. The event will focus on disseminating information about Coming Out Week as well as historical information about the resource center itself.
####Tuesday — Open safe space training####
The LGBTQ+ Resource Center will be hosting a two-hour training session on how to be inclusive and more aware of the many identities within the LGBTQ+ community. The training session will take place from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. inside the LGBTQ+ resource center.
####Wednesday — Students of LGBTQ parents lunch social####
The resource center will be hosting a one hour long lunch social beginning at noon to connect students who have LGBTQ+ parents. This event focuses on networking and connection.
####Thursday — Coming Out Day photo booth####
Students are welcome to come by and take a few photos at a photo booth erected by the LGBTQ+ Resource Center in the Student Center from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
