Missouri volleyball swept the Mississippi Rebels yesterday in the Tigers’ first of two road matches this weekend.
The Tigers started off the first set with a 3-0 run and kept the lead for the entire set. Missouri hit .519 in the set with 16 kills.
The second set was a back-and-forth battle. The set was tied 11 times and had four lead changes. Missouri had five set points and Mississippi had four set points, but the Tigers ultimately came out ahead 31-29. Missouri’s offense remained strong throughout the set, hitting .364 with 15 kills.
The third set remained extremely close at the beginning, with 14 ties. With the set tied 17-17, Missouri went on a 7-0 run. The Tigers eventually won the set 25-19.
“I was pleased overall with our match tonight,” coach Wayne Kreklow said in a press release. “We came out strong in set one and hit for a very high percentage. In set two, we were a little lethargic and Ole Miss started serving tougher which took us out of system more. Set three was back and forth until we got a little separation with a late 21-17 lead. Down the stretch we did a good job of not giving point away and were able to take the match.”
Sophomores Dariana Hollingsworth and Leketor Member-Meneh led the Tigers with 10 kills each. Sophomore Kylie Deberg also had nine kills for the Tigers. Redshirt junior Riley Sents had 15 digs, and redshirt freshman Andrea Fuentes had 32 assists for Missouri. Sophomore Tyanna Omazic and senior Alyssa Munlyn tallied six and five blocks, respectively.
Missouri had a total of 12 blocks in the match, reaching double-digit blocks for the 14th time this season. They also hit .356 with 43 kills in the match.
The Tigers will head to Starkville, Mississippi for a match against Mississippi State on Sunday at 1 pm.
