No. 24 Missouri volleyball (21-5, 11-3 SEC) defeated a stubborn Auburn side 3-0 on Wednesday in Auburn, Alabama.
Both Tiger teams went tic-for-tac in the first two sets of the match, but Missouri squeezed out 25-21 and 25-23 victories, respectively. The third set was more straightforward, as the visiting Tigers won 25-16.
“I was pleased overall with our effort and focus tonight,” coach Wayne Kreklow said in a press release. “Our group worked hard the past couple of days in practice and it was nice to see some of those things carried over into tonight’s match. Auburn has some talented players and it was a tough match that our players had to earn on the road. I’m proud of our team attitude and focus tonight.”
Missouri’s middle blockers came up big on Wednesday. Senior Alyssa Munlyn posted ten kills on .562 hitting, while sophomore Tyanna Omazic had eight kills on .333 hitting, and each had four total blocks. Sophomore Dariana Hollingsworth also contributed 11 kills on .450 hitting, as well as 10 digs.
As a team, Missouri hit .337 and limited Auburn to hitting .170. Missouri’s biggest negative was that it kept giving the home team lifelines in the form of its serve receive, allowing Auburn to tally five aces.
Next up for Missouri is a date with Georgia at 1 p.m. on Sunday at Mizzou Arena.
