Missouri women’s basketball coach Robin Pingeton received a four-year contract extension that lasts through the end of the 2024-25 season, the team announced the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.
Pingeton will receive a base salary of $400,000 per year, with a variety of possible bonuses based on team performance, public appearances, academic standards and ticket sales. She had received a $300,000 base salary until her previous contract extension, which was signed in 2016.
Since arriving from Illinois State in 2010, Pingeton has led the Tigers to .579 overall winning percentage, with her 150th win coming on Nov. 19 against Southern Illinois-Edwardsville. Mizzou has also reached the NCAA Tournament in three consecutive seasons for the first time since 1984-86.
This year’s team was picked to finish fifth in the SEC in the league’s preseason poll and is currently No. 21 in the Associated Press poll after a 3-1 start.
Pingeton’s time with the program thus far has often been defined by the team’s current star, senior Sophie Cunningham. Cunningham committed to the program in 2011, before her freshman year of high school and has become the face of her hometown team in the years since.
Pingeton has steadily built a brand at Mizzou Arena, attracting recruits such as five-star prospect Aijha Blackwell. Blackwell is part of a 2019 recruiting class that is currently ranked 12th in the country by ESPN.
Should Pingeton serve out her contract, she would become the second-longest tenured coach in program history after Joann Rutherford, who led the team from 1975-98.
Pingeton is the sister of Lisa Porter, whose husband, Michael Porter Sr., has been an assistant coach for Missouri’s men’s basketball team since 2017. The Porters’ two oldest daughters, Bri and Cierra, played under Pingeton from 2014-18 and 2015-18, respectively.
