The Missouri Tigers wrestling team faced a setback on Wednesday as redshirt sophomore Grant Leeth announced on his Instagram account that he suffered a season-ending injury. A Missouri source confirmed the injury to be a torn labrum.
This will be Leeth’s fourth season in five years with an injury that’s either significant or season-ending.
His injury issues began in his freshman year at Duke in 2014, where he tore his meniscus after three tournaments. He retained his eligibility and transferred to Missouri at the end of the year, but the injuries continued. A herniated disk forced him to miss all of the following season.
Seemingly healthy for the first time since the beginning of his collegiate career, Leeth received more bad news entering the 2016-17 season, as issues stemming from his previous meniscus injury would keep him out again.
Leeth’s only healthy year in Columbia was last season when he went 25-6 and was MAC champion in the 149 pound class. He also earned All-American status.
Despite his history of injuries, Leeth stated in an Instagram post that he intends to return in 2019.
