Down 9-0 two bouts into its match with Buffalo on Sunday, No. 6 Missouri wrestling needed to turn things around in a hurry.
Eight consecutive wins, coupled with a Bulls bench violation that resulted in a rare 30-to-negative 1 run got the job done and led to a 30-8 win over Buffalo (5-3, 0-1 MAC) for Missouri (5-0, 3-0 MAC).
After Cameron Valdiviez and Allan Hart lost their bouts in the 125 and 133 weight classes respectively, Mizzou looked to No. 3 Jaydin Eierman in the 141 class to stop the bleeding. Eierman defeated Kyle Todrank 24-9 on a technical fall to get the Tigers back into it, chopping the Buffalo lead to 9-5.
Next up Brock Mauller. A freshman, Mauller had been expected to redshirt this year, but he has stepped into the starting lineup following Grant Leeth’s season-ending injury. In his first career college bout he took on Jason Estevez, winning 8-2.
Mizzou didn’t look back from there, picking up wins from 157 Jarrett Jacques, 165 Connor Flynn, 174 Daniel Lewis, 184 Dylan Wisman, 197 Wyatt Koelling and heavyweight Zach Elam for their fourth win by at least 20 points this season.
Missouri wrestles again on Dec. 20 against Virginia at Park Hill High School in Kansas City.
