Columbia offers plenty of places for students to see a band live.
####On Campus####
Campus Activities Programming Board puts on multiple free events throughout the school year. In addition, large acts sometimes use campus venues as part of national tours. Jesse Auditorium has held musicians like St. Louis rapper Smino and “Weird Al” Yankovic. Though better known for holding basketball games, Mizzou Arena has hosted acts like country musician Kenny Chesney and progressive rockers A Perfect Circle. Every now and then there may be a pop-up held on campus, such as the American Authors’ Welcome Week concert on Carnahan Quad.
####Downtown####
Rose Music Hall holds MidMO PrideFest every August and often brings country acts as well as local indie bands. Honky-Tonk Nash Vegas hosts country and bluegrass groups. Record store Hitt Street Records and Cafe Berlin, an eatery and event location, host shows as well. With a capacity of about 800 and located in the middle of downtown, The Blue Note has hosted such acts as Snoop Dogg, Young the Giant and Hippo Campus.
####Underground####
If you are looking for a mosh pit, you’ll find it in PDM. Local metal acts like Gorbza and Skooma often play there, jamming out in a grimy, graffiti-covered garage. With a location shrouded in mystery, it’s often said that the best way to find PDM is to ask a record store employee. Gay House gives similarly intimate vibes with an entirely different genre of focus. The venue is a local house that hosts free all ages shows with indie bands. As a private residence, it does not publish its address, but instead, puts a number on its flyers to call for the address.
