There’s no need to travel to St. Louis or Kansas City to get your live music fix this semester. Here are five upcoming concerts and festivals right here in Columbia that music fans will want to keep an eye on.
####Roots N Blues N BBQ Festival (Sept. 27 through 29 at Stephens Lake Park)####
The music and barbeque festival is an annual Columbia tradition, and this year’s lineup has expanded beyond the festival’s traditional focus on country and blues acts. In addition to performances from modern country artists like Jason Isbell, the festival will feature veteran indie rock group The New Pornographers, as well as legendary folk singer John Prine.
####Joyce Manor with Stef Chura (Oct. 5 at Rose Music Hall)####
It’ll be a night of pop-punk at Rose Music Hall when genre favorites Joyce Manor come to town, along with up-and-coming artist Stef Chura later this fall. Joyce Manor will be touring in support of their 2018 album, “Million Dollars to Kill Me,” while Chura is coming off of the release of her acclaimed sophomore record “Tonight” earlier this summer. In addition to the two acts, Oregon-based indie rock band Strange Ranger will be performing.
####Smino (Oct. 5 at Memorial Student Union)####
Missouri rapper Smino performed last fall on at MU, and will be returning to Columbia once more this October. This time, he’ll be performing at the Memorial Student Union instead of Jesse Auditorium.
####Mason Ramsey (Oct. 18 at The Blue Note)####
Remember the viral video from last year of the yodeling Walmart kid? Well, he’s going to be performing at The Blue Note in October, so now’s your chance to brush up if you’re unfamiliar with his oeuvre. Illinois native Mason Ramsey has had a wild year since that video shot him to sudden fame, performing at Nashville’s legendary Grand Ole Opry as well as Coachella. Columbia will finally get to see what the hype is all about on Oct. 18.
####Com Truise (Nov. 5 at The Blue Note)####
Electronic act Com Truise will be at the Blue Note this November with openers Altopalo and Beshken, and it’s sure to be a cinematic show. The artist has described his most recent album, “Iteration,” as “basically like I’m scoring this film in my head, but that film I’m scoring is also somehow my life.”
