Less than a minute after her second goal of the game, sophomore midfielder Julissa Cisneros found the net again after a pass from senior forward Sarah Luebbert.
“I think [Cisneros] benefitted from her partner [Luebbert],” coach Bryan Blitz said in a press release. “They’re a great pair right now, and I think they’re in great form.”
Luebbert is credited with an assist in two of Cisneros’ goals this season.
The play started at the kickoff after Cisneros’ penalty kick goal in the 55th minute. This was Cisneros’ first career hat trick and third in program history.
Cisneros propelled Missouri soccer (2-0, 0-0 SEC) to its second win of the season with a 3-1 victory over Ohio State University on the road at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
OSU saw its first and only goal of the match in the third minute from sophomore forward Kayla Fischer. Freshman midfielder Ariella Pitty was credited with the assist.
The first half was littered with fouls, the Buckeyes committing nine and the Tigers committing four, with a yellow card for OSU redshirt junior Meghan Kammerdeiner.
Missouri led the game in shots, with six attempts before Cisneros’ first score of the match in the 20th minute on a penalty kick to tie the game 1-1.
Neither team was able to net a goal and pull ahead prior to halftime.
The second period started with a save by Missouri redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Peyton Bauman after a shot by junior Olivia Petit came within the first minute.
An OSU handball in the 56th minute of play gave Cisneros another opportunity at goal from the penalty kick line.
Cisneros’ hat trick was the first time Missouri soccer has scored three times in a single match since its win over Alabama in the 2017 SEC Tournament. Cisneros’ hat trick was the third in program history.
The remaining 34 minutes of the game were scoreless with one shot from the Tigers. The Buckeyes attempted six more shots throughout the period, but were unable to score.
Cisneros had six shots throughout the game and was the sole goal contributor for the Tigers. Cisneros is the only Tiger who has scored this season.
Bauman had two saves despite her allowance of the early goal in the first period. She played the full 90 minutes in the second game of her career.
Blitz was pleased with the outcome against the Buckeyes.
“I think our grit has accumulated the last two years,” Blitz said. “They know that winning is hard, and they’ve been putting in the work.”
