Following up its dominating performance two weeks ago at the Mizzou Cross Country Opener, Missouri’s women’s cross country team placed 4th while the men finished 5th at the Commodore Classic on Sept. 14th.
The women’s team scored 141 points, finishing behind No.15 Ole Miss, No. 26 Ohio State and Indiana while finishing second among the six participating SEC schools.
Junior transfer Sarah Chapman led the Tigers finishing 11th out of 192 runners with a time of 21:34:3. Redshirt senior Jordyn Kleve and freshman Jenna Schwartz followed Chapman, with both runners placing 20th and 22nd respectively. Seniors Sophia Racette and Hannah Thomas rounded out the Missouri scorers placing inside the top 50 under the 22:30 mark. The Tigers finished with a 57.2 second gap between their top five, the 3rd best among the top ten teams.
On the men’s side, the Tigers scored 136 points in the 15 team field. The men finished second among SEC teams, only falling short of Ole Miss by eight points.
The one-two United Kingdom punch of redshirt senior Thomas George and senior Kieran Wood both placed inside the top 15. This week it was Thomas who took the crown between the duo, finishing in 11th place with a time of 24:44:8. Wood came in 14th place finishing eight seconds behind his senior teammate.
The rest of the Tigers followed with the peleton of the pack as sophomore Martin Prodanov, redshirt freshman Victor Mugeche and sophomore Oaklee Hauschild finished 36th, 39th and 55th. All runners came in under the 26 minute marker equalling a spread of 1:02.8 between the first five Missouri runners.
Up next for the Tigers is the inaugural Mizzou Cross Country Challenge. The challenge will serve as the opening meet at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course on Sept. 27 and will feature new 3-kilometer and 2-kilometer loops. 11 schools are entered for the invite, including seven schools from the Midwest Regional.
