Missouri men’s golf notched it first win of the season earlier this week at the Prairie Club Invitational in Valentine, Neb. This win comes less than a week after taking 10th at the Inverness Intercollegiate Tournament.

The Prairie Club Invitational marked a milestone for senior Rory Franssen. The second round of the invitation was Franssen’s 100th round as a Tiger. He was able to shoot 1-under par in the round.

Franssen had a successful tournament finishing 3-under par with a score of 216. His score was enough for him to rank No. 2 individually. It was the highest individual ranking for Franssen since he finished No. 2 at the Hootie at Bull’s Bay last March and was his fifth career top-5 finish.

The Prairie Club Invitation was a breakout tournament for freshman Ross Steelman. He posted a score of 65, 8-under par, in the second round where he shot six birdies and two eagles. Steelman finished the invitational with a 9-under 210, enough for him to place No. 1 individually. He became the first freshman to win an individual title since 2012.

Senior Ricky Sanders was the third Tiger to place in the top 10. Sanders had his best score in the third round where he shot five birdies and finished 3-under par. His performance in the final round was enough for him to jump 16 spots to tie for No. 6. Sanders posted a 219 over the three rounds to end 3-over par. His score was one better than he shot at the Prairie Club Invitational in 2018.

Freshman Viktor Einarsson was moved to the two spot for the Prairie Club Invitational after he finished with the second best score for the Tigers at the Inverness Intercollegiate Tournament. He carded his best finish of his collegiate career, tying for No. 11. Einarsson shot a 224 overall.

Rounding out the Tigers lineup was junior Jack Parker who struggled in the second round of the invitational. Parker amassed eight bogeys in the round and finished 8-over. He ended with a 14-over 233 and tied for No. 31 individually.

As a team, Missouri was able to secure first place by 20 stokes over second place Sam Houston State. The Tigers had a 3-shot lead going into the final round. They were able to pull further away from the competition by posting a 5-under 287 on Monday.

The victory at the Prairie Club Invitational marks the Tigers’ first win since the Turning Stone-Tiger Intercollegiate championships in September 2018.

Missouri returns to compete Oct. 11 to 13 at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate where it placed 7-of-14 last year.
