Missouri volleyball finished its weekend with a 3-1 victory over Georgia in Athens.

The Tigers struggled in the first set, falling 21-25. Georgia had its best offensive set of the match, hitting .308.

Missouri gained a 21-15 lead in the second set, but Georgia fought back to tie the set at 24, forcing extra points. Down 24-25, the Tigers went on a 3-0 run to win the set 27-25.

The Tiger offense dominated in the third and fourth sets, hitting .519 and .484 respectively.

The third set started off close, but Missouri started to pull away with a 15-10 lead, eventually increasing its lead to 24-16. The Bulldogs fought off two set points for the Tigers, but a kill by junior Kylie Deberg gave Missouri a 25-18 victory.

The fourth set started off as another close contest, but the Tigers didn’t take long to pull ahead. With the set tied at 5, Missouri took the lead and kept it for the rest of the set.

“We struggled out of the gate a bit today, but for the second consecutive match our team rebounded nicely and I’m really pleased with their fight,” interim head coach Joshua Taylor said in a press release.

“We had so many players step up on both sides of the ball,” Taylor said. “We had a very balanced offensive attack, while our defense played consistent throughout.”

Missouri’s offense had four players post double-digit kills. Deberg led the Tigers with 18, followed by junior Dariana Hollingsworth-Santana with 14. Juniors Tyanna Omazic and Leketor Member-Meneh had 13 and 12 kills respectively. Hollingsworth-Santana and Omazic both hit a team-high .500 in the match. Redshirt sophomore Kayla Caffey and Omazic led Missouri with 6 blocks.

The Tigers will return home for home for a match against Alabama on Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Hearnes Center, followed by another home match against South Carolina on Sunday at 1 p.m.

“We’re excited to get back home next weekend and playing two matches inside the Hearnes Center,” Taylor said.
