The Missouri Tigers hosted the 12th Annual Missouri Collegiate Challenge Saturday, Feb. 22, at the Hearnes Center Fieldhouse for the final indoor meet of the regular season.
The Tigers dominated their competitors with a team first place finish, numerous individual first place finishes and several personal records throughout the day.
Missouri redshirt sophomore Jayson Ashford was dominant in the Men’s 60-meter dash, finishing first with a 6.80, a new personal record. Teammate and Missouri junior Nylo Clarke finished close behind with a 6.84 snagging the second place slot. Jazmyn Shumaker earned herself the second place finish in the Women’s 60 Meter with a 7.72, improving from her preliminary run of 7.78.
In the men’s 60M hurdles, Zachary Charles ran 8.39 as he finished third, followed closely behind by teammate Chris Mckinzy Jr. 8.40 as they both earned personal records.
The Tigers locked in the top spots for both the men and women’s 200-meter. Clarke had a successful race creating a meet record time with a 21.73, and Morgan O’Neal finished first with a time of 25.54. Behind Clarke’s record setting time, Nyles Thomas (22.22) and Caulin Graves (22.30) finished second and third, respectively in the men’s 200.
In the Men’s 600-meter final, Missouri junior Dylan Quisenberry finished at the top spot with a time of 1:25.17, as did Mizzou freshman Oaklee Hauschild in the men’s mile with a time of 4:24.08. In the women’s mile, Shannon Browning finished in second place with a personal record of 5:06.50, followed by third-fifth finishes by teammates Tori Findley (5:10.19), Emma Roth (5:17.12), and Lexi Maddox (5:17.73). Lilly Hamilton (5:27.04), Kayla Funkenbusch (5:27.97), Abby Hake (5:28.62 PR), Samantha Farmer (5:29.63) and Anna Sullentrup (6:02.10) rounded out the Tigers in the mile race.
The Tigers saw success in the women’s 800-meter as Melissa Menghini earned herself meet and personal records finishing with a time of 2:13:11. Teammate Faramola Shonekan (2:16.07) followed close behind earning herself a second place finish and personal record. Sarah Chapman (2:16.36) and Reilly Revord (2:22.48) came in third and fourth, as Lilly Hamilton rounded out the Tigers finishing seventh with her own personal best (2:26.15).
The Tigers 4 x 400 Relay team finished in the top slot with a 3:22.15.
In the Women’s Shot Put Mizzou sophomore Jordan Speer finished in second place with 13.94m, and Mizzou sophomore Jake Wirthwein finished third and earned himself a personal record of 15.91 in the men’s shot put.
The Women’s Weight Throw was a successful competition as Jordan McClendon finished in first place with 21.39m, followed by teammates Sydney Oberdiek (18.50m), Emily Stauffer (17.79m) and Sydney Johnson (17.14m). Missouri freshman Olivia Evans finished in sixth with 15.93m, a personal best.
Missouri Track and Field will head to College Station, Texas, to compete in the 2020 SEC Indoor Track and Field Championships Feb. 28-29 at Gilliam Indoor Stadium, hosted by Texas A&M.
