Missouri’s homecoming football game against Vanderbilt has been postponed, the Southeastern Conference announced Monday afternoon.
The announcement comes after Vanderbilt only fielded 56 scholarship players in their Week 3 loss to South Carolina. By the SEC’s guidelines, teams need 53 scholarship players to compete in games.
The game has been rescheduled for Dec. 12.
“The Vanderbilt at Missouri FB game of Oct. 17 is postponed due to positive tests & subsequent quarantine of individuals within the Vanderbilt FB program,” the SEC said in a tweet. “The action is consistent with SEC COVID-19 management requirements. The game is tentatively rescheduled for Dec. 12.”
The game, originally scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. kickoff this Saturday, was moved to the idle week prior to the SEC Championship Game in Atlanta, currently scheduled for the following week.
The rescheduling announcement comes just two days after Missouri coach Eli Drinkwitz’s first win in Columbia, a 45-41 upset victory over No. 17 LSU. Vanderbilt entered Week 4 at 0-3, having only won one game since defeating Missouri on Oct. 19, 2019.
Barring any other schedule changes, the Tigers will have a bye week and their next game will be played in Gainesville, Fla. Missouri will visit the 2-1 Gators on Oct. 24 at 6 p.m.
