On Dec. 16, Missouri released its wrestling schedule. With the season kicking off Sunday, the Tigers will be back in action after finishing at No. 23 in the national rankings before the COVID-19 pandemic cut their season short.
The Tigers’ season will begin in Fargo, N.D. with meets against North Dakota State, South Dakota State and Oregon State as the teams compete in the North Dakota State Quadrangular meet.
Last season, the Bison of NDSU finished 10-4, with a win against No. 21 Stanford being the highlight of the season. As for SDSU, it finished with a 12-6 record with no meets against ranked opposition. The Beavers finished 8-6 before the season was cut short.
On paper, the Tigers’ toughest meet will be in Ames, Iowa, where they will face last season’s No. 6 Arizona State, No. 16 Northern Iowa and No. 21 Iowa State. Missouri faced all three last season, picking up a 1-2 record against those schools, with the win coming against Iowa State by a score of 27-6. They fell to the Sun Devils 21-13 and the Panthers 20-13.
The Tigers will also be looking for redemption against last season’s No. 11 Oklahoma State. Last season, the Cowboys bested Missouri in Stillwater by a score of 26-6.
Their rematch will take place in the same location, as well as matchups against Central Oklahoma and West Virginia, who finished last season 12-2 and 4-12 respectively.
Throughout the rest of the season, Missouri will face rematches against Central Michigan, Wyoming, Northern Illinois, Ohio, Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville and Kent State. Last season, the Tigers defeated all five schools by a combined score of 145-50.
After the regular season, the Tigers will look to claim a tenth-straight tournament title in Lawrenceville, N.J. Should they qualify, they will then head to the NCAA Championships in St. Louis.
