Luther Burden, one of the premier football prospects in the 2022 recruiting class, named Missouri as a potential destination in his announcement of his top three. Missouri joins SEC powerhouses Georgia and Alabama as finalists. Burden, who verbally committed to Oklahoma in October 2020, ultimately decommitted from OU on August 17. On Friday, he named his new top three, leaving the Sooners off the list.

A product of East St. Louis Senior High School in East St. Louis, Illinois, Burden ranks as the nation’s No. 6 overall player in the class of 2022 according to 247Sports. He’s also the No. 2 wide receiver in the class, and the top-ranked player from Illinois. If he commits to Missouri, he will become the second-highest ranked recruit in the program’s history, behind 2012 wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham, who ranked as the best player in that class.
The addition of Burden would elevate the talent of Missouri’s 2022 roster, which has already received commitments from six four-star recruits. Burden would join Missouri freshmen Dominic Lovett and Tyler Macon, becoming the third East St. Louis Senior High School player to be recruited and inked by head football coach Eli Drinkwitz.
Burden is expected to announce his final decision on Oct. 20 at East St. Louis Senior High School, as first reported by KSDK’s Frank Cusumano.
