Josiah Mendoza – Presidential Candidate of “Show Me Mizzou” Slate
Q: If you could only eat at one on-campus restaurant, which would it be?
Mendoza: “Definitely Wheatstone. I admittedly get the same thing every time: two chicken bacon ranch flatbreads!”
Q: Pizza Tree or Shakespeare’s?
Mendoza: “Shakespeare’s! Good atmosphere and close to campus.”
Q: What is your go-to song to listen to while walking to class?
Mendoza: “Go-to song is definitely ‘Graves into Gardens’ by Elevation Worship. Beautiful song!”
Q: What is your usual coffee order?
Mendoza: “My usual coffee order isn’t coffee. I’d rather have hot chocolate than coffee, unless it’s Cuban coffee!”
Q: What are you binge-watching right now?
Mendoza: “Right now, I’m binge-watching the newest season of ‘Ozark’!”
Q: Sleep with socks on or off?
Mendoza: “Socks off!”
Molly Miller – Vice Presidential Candidate of “Show Me Mizzou” Slate
Q: If you could only eat at one on-campus restaurant, which would it be?
Miller: “I miss Kate and Emma’s. Weird choice, but I loved their bowl options when I was busy studying in the Student Center.”
Q: Pizza Tree or Shakespeare’s?
Miller: “Neither. The best pizza in CoMo is Gumby’s, and I will die on that hill. Their pizza is delicious, they have the best toasted raviolis for a late-night snack and you can follow that up with Pokey [Stix]. Nowhere else can compete.”
Q: What is your go-to song to listen to while walking to class?
Miller: “I always end up calling someone when I’m walking to class. It ends up being a great way to keep in touch with my different family members. My mom probably wouldn’t agree, considering I am usually blowing up her phone while doing errands on campus.”
Q: What is your usual coffee order?
Miller: “My go-to coffee order is from Starbucks on campus. I get a Passion Tango iced tea, unsweetened, light water. I basically make it as tart as possible. I honestly haven’t met anyone else that drinks it like this.”
Q: What are you binge-watching right now?
Miller: “I’m watching ‘Madam Secretary’ right now. I love the international diplomacy aspect of it, but I suspect that has something to do with me being an International Studies major. I, also, am an avid ‘Bachelor’ fan.”
Q: Sleep with socks on or off?
Miller: “I would genuinely like to know who sleeps with their socks on. Seriously.”
Samantha Hole – Presidential Candidate for “Maximize Mizzou” Slate
Q: If you could only eat at one on-campus restaurant, which would it be?
Hole: “Easy — Sabai. I lived in Wolpers Hall both freshman and sophomore year, and so Sabai was not only closest to me; it also had the most vegetarian options.”
Q: Pizza Tree or Shakespeare’s?
Hole: “Both my parents went to Mizzou … Every time we’d visit we would get Shake’s, so I really associate it with my family. Since becoming a student here, I have loved Pizza Tree’s margherita pizza! It is so, so good. I think about it all the time, and it was one of the first things downtown that I discovered by myself — so I think I’d go with that! But don’t tell my family that — Shake’s is our thing.”
Q: What is your go-to song to listen to while walking to class?
Hole: “I actually have a playlist that I play when I am walking to class depending on how fast I need to get there. If I’m on a mission — it’s ‘I Want’ by One Direction. That beat really sets me in motion. If I’m taking my time and enjoying the weather and scenery on my way there, it’s ‘Way It Goes’ by Hippo Campus. It feels like it could be in the background of a movie montage of college students walking to class and just makes me feel at ease and grateful to be where I am!”
Q: What is your usual coffee order?
Hole: “My usual coffee order kind of makes me sound very intense, but I do promise there’s simple reasoning behind it! My order is straight black coffee … Nothing added at all, no sweetener, no cream. The reasoning is that, like every freshman who realizes that their dining plan works at the Starbucks, I started drinking a lot of coffee, and it hadn’t usually affected me that much, but I started drinking like nine cups a day — like a lot, a lot. I got anxious and jittery, so to make myself drink less coffee and slower, I just went straight to black from sweetened lattes. It was very bitter so I wouldn’t drink as much or as fast; now it’s the only way I can drink it — [it] just feels natural now!”
Q: What are you binge-watching right now?
Hole: “I literally just watched the new drop of Season Two ‘Love is Blind’ in one day. It’s such a cheesy show with an interesting concept, and my friends and I would watch it in the dorms together pre-COVID, and it just brings back a lot of those core happy memories. [I also] just got HBO Max [to watch] ‘Euphoria’ so I can understand all of the Twitter memes and hype.”
Q: Sleep with socks on or off?
Hole: “Socks ON. I know that that is a red flag for some people, but I used to be ‘socks off’ but then I lived in the dorms and the floors were really cold, so I started sleeping with them on. I’m sure I could go back to ‘socks off’ if I trained myself to, but that seems like a lot of work and my socks are cozy. So for where I’m at in my life, I am firmly ‘socks on’ — but who knows? Maybe one day I’ll flip back. Time will tell.”
Daniel Daugherty – Vice Presidential Candidate for “Maximize Mizzou” Slate
Q: If you could only eat at one on-campus restaurant, which would it be?
Daugherty: “Sabai! I absolutely love their rice bowls!”
Q: Pizza Tree or Shakespeare’s?
Daugherty: “Pizza Tree 1000%. Getting it by the slice at their little walk-up window has saved [me] more times [than] I can count. My favorite right now is the truffled crimini!”
Q: What is your go-to song to listen to while walking to class?
Daugherty: “Right now it is probably ‘SYNCOPATE’ by MICHELLE. Everything they release is an instant banger.”
Q: What is your usual coffee order?
Daugherty: “I’ve been working at Starbucks for three years now, so it’s a little complicated, but here we go. Right now it is either a tall iced latte with three blonde ristretto shots, brown sugar syrup and oat milk — or a cold brew with half vanilla, half hazelnut and oat milk. I feel so bad ordering it, but the baristas at the Starbucks downtown deal with me and I absolutely love them! Shoutout to those legends!”
Q: What are you binge-watching right now?
Daugherty: “‘Demon Slayer!’ My twin sister, Hope, told me about it one day, and then just a couple days later my partner suggested we start watching it too, so we sat down and binged the first eight episodes. It’s great!”
Q: Sleep with socks on or off?
Daugherty: “Socks off! But being lazy around the house before bed? Socks on. Very cozy. But the minute I’m in bed, socks are off.”
