Missouri volleyball dominated its home court at the Hearnes Center over the weekend in the Mizzou Invitational. The Tigers finished the tournament with a clean sweep to improve their overall record to 4-2.
The Tigers opened the tournament against Abilene Christian Friday, where they dropped a close first set before winning the next three: 25-12, 25-16 and 25-13. The Tigers outscored the Wildcats 76-46 with 61 kills to the Wildcats’ 37.
Sophomore outside hitter Kaylee Cox was an instrumental part of the win, leading the team with a career-high 21 kills and 12 digs.
Missouri then faced the Missouri State Bears, who the Tigers had not played in a regular-season meeting since 1998. The Tigers have historically struggled against Missouri State, with an all time record of 8-42 against the Bears.
None of the sets were particularly close, with the Tigers winning 25-15, 25-17 and 25-17. Missouri sophomore middle blocker Trista Strasser led the team with five blocks, while senior outside hitter Anna Dixon led the team with 14 kills.
To close out the tournament, the Tigers faced the Northwestern State Lady Demons. Missouri won in three straight sets, taking them 25-13, 25-16 and 25-20.
Cox once again had a great game, leading the Tigers in kills (14), aces (seven) and digs (13). She was named the MVP of the Mizzou Invitational All-Tournament Team.
Freshman setter Riley Buckley was also named to the Mizzou Invitational All-Tournament Team. She had a then-season-high 7.5 points and season-high four aces in the match against Missouri State and finished the tournament with 28 assists and seven digs.
