Missouri soccer defeated Kansas 2-1 Sunday at home in their first meeting since April 2021, when the Tigers won 1-0.
Missouri freshman Keegan Good scored both goals, her first collegiate goals with the Tigers. In the 58th minute, she shot from the top of the box to notch her first goal and tie the game 1-1.
Following her first goal, Good ensured the Jayhawks did not get ahead. In the 62nd minute, she saved the ball when Kansas was inches away from scoring and taking the lead.
With five minutes left in the match, Good scored another goal, with an assist from Missouri freshman Kylee Simmons to put the Tigers ahead 2-1.
“It was a great layoff by Kylee Simmons,” Good said in a post-game interview. “You have to have the composure to finish. It was a great feeling getting these two goals today in such a big game.”
Missouri’s offense dominated Kansas throughout the game and controlled most of the possession. However, the defense dropped in the sixth minute, allowing Kansas super senior Rylan Childers to record the Jayhawks’ only goal of the match.
As the game progressed, the Tigers stayed in possession of the ball but had no good looks to score in the first half. Missouri’s defense blocked Childers’ continued attempts to score again and put the Jayhawks further in the lead.
The Tigers won and pressured deep in Kansas territory throughout the game. However, they still struggled with shooting too wide, pressing instead of moving the ball and continuous ball possession. The Tigers improved to 3-2-1 this season.
Missouri will travel to Illinois Thursday for a 7 p.m. kickoff. The Tigers’ first conference game of the season will be Friday, Sept. 16, against No. 11 Auburn at home.
