Dear Sunbee:
I’m a senior this year – eek! This means job applications, moving to a new city and starting a new chapter of my life are just around the corner. Any advice for a girl who doesn’t want to face the music? – From Big Case of Senioritis
Dear Big Case of Senioritis,
I hear you are struggling with facing the reality that you’re about to start the next chapter of your life. First things first, what you’re feeling is normal. You aren’t the only senior feeling like this! Why not get together with your friends and talk about it? It’s time to accept this inevitable truth – before you can do anything, you must welcome it with open arms.
Unfortunately, we can’t ignore what is happening right in front of us. And time is not slowing down either. So, simply take it one day at a time. One day, you might feel more motivated to do those applications and research for a new city to live in. Other days, you might not want to do anything at all and your fear is at its highest. When this happens, listen to your mind and body. Only you know how much you can take before you need a break.
Here are some things you can do to cherish your time!
- Have a picnic with friends. You guys can get dressed up, buy all of your favorite snacks and just chat the day away. Make sure to bring a camera to capture the memory!
- Everyone has a bucket list, so why not cross off an item? See what you can take care of before you graduate!
- Explore everything that CoMo has to offer! Go for a hike at Rock Bridge State Park, catch a show at The Blue Note or go hang out with some cats at Papa’s Cat Cafe.
- Jump into any missed MU traditions, like attending a football or basketball game, or watching a movie with Campus Activities Programming Board. You want to make sure your time here was the best it could’ve been.
Lastly, I just want to tell you that it is going to be okay. You are going to be okay. I understand the closer you get to the end, the more frightening it is. But, you aren’t there just yet. Continue to enjoy your college life, make those memories and plan for the future when you feel even the slightest bit of confidence you are ready to take it in.
With love and sunshine for you,
Sunbee
