On Tuesday, Jan. 31, the Missouri Students Association reconvened for its first Full Senate meeting of the semester. During the meeting, Senate Bill 62-24 was passed, At-Large senators were confirmed, MSA’s spring schedule was discussed and senators were introduced to committee chairs.

Senate Bill 62-24 aims to provide funding for the AppArmor mobile app, which is a safety app that can be customized specifically for MU. The app is intended to provide students and staff with personal safety features in addition to the current Blue Light system. MSA will contribute to the funding effort along with the Division of Information Technology and the Residence Halls Association.
MU junior and Senator Outreach Coordinator Dalton Lytle authored the bill alongside MU junior and Vice President Molly Miller.
Lytle said the bill serves as funding for AppArmor, which includes features such as a safety timer and the ability to text 911 operators. More features can also be added during the ongoing design process, Lytle said.
At the beginning of the meeting, 22 At-Large Senators were confirmed. At-Large Senators represent the student body as a whole, rather than solely representing a specific college within the university, and are confirmed every semester.

MU freshman Trey Trapani was one of the senators confirmed during Tuesday’s meeting.
“I think people know me well enough as to where I can trust people to vote the right way,” Trapani said. “It was a lot more nerve-wracking this time; I’m happy to be able to continue [as an At-Large Senator].”
Toward the end of the meeting, MSA Senate Committee Chairs stated their current plans and priorities for the semester.
“I really want to reform the bylaws and the election code — I want to clean those up hopefully so that we’re on a more stable ground for when I leave,” Internal Affairs Operation Chair senior Samantha Hole said.
MSA outlined its spring schedule during the meeting, which included discussion about the upcoming campaigns for president and vice president, along with speaker of the senate, which will launch in the coming weeks.
