Artist Statement: These three poems were written for people I’ve loved and lost. Whether it’s familial or romantic, those we love help shape us into who we are. Losing these individuals may feel like losing a part of yourself, but these losses allow us to grow, heal and continue to love unapologetically.

Dorothy’s amethyst
The jewelry of the buried
Glimmers on living fingers
Still in the good graces of time
Spry and unaware of what lies below
Only here and now is known
The past contained
Silently stirring in heirloom gemstones.
Unrequited
Bound by a contract of the heart
I remain tied to you
Hip to hip with the empty space
Next to me in bed
Holding a place for you.
Patient in the silence
Mind elsewhere
Eyes closed.
I hold my gaze
With the inside of my eyelids
And they show me who i want to see
Who I would share my space with.

Definition of insanity
With wounds unhealed
And a heart still bleeding
I try again.
Looking forward toward
The unwritten future
I beg my hindsight
To fade out of focus.
